Santa Rosa Fort was build strategically in a valley to control the pass from south to north. Its construction data from 1680’s. The Fort dominates La Asuncion and was the site of many battles. In one of its prisons, sixteen years old pregnant wife of revolutionary hero Juan Bautista Arismendi, was taken prisoner and gave birth but unfortunately the baby die.
